I went to FRF in 2000 and 2001.
FRF2001 was great but I have an intense memory from FRF 2000 that I'm sure it will be related generation after generation.
'Cause it is a sad story.
It was Friday, July 28, 2001, and Blanky Jet City's last day before their disbandment. I wasn't an old fan of theirs, but I wanted to check them out with my own eyes. Unfortunately, it was their last performance. Even though I was enjoying my first FRF all morning, my mind was full of BJC's music. They were on my mind the whole time when I was seeing FISHBONE and KANPEI-chan (Kampei Hazama) performing, and also when I was having a meal listening to G LOVE And Special Sauce from somewhere far.
After seeing KAZUFUMI KODAMA at rainy Field Of Heaven, and shivering from the cold weather, I waited for BJC when FOO FIGHTERS was playing at the Green stage. Nothing but waiting is a pain, so I laid down and drank beer. Then my friend came back with a bottle of wine and cheese in his hand. So happy! And I realized that I was drinking the whole bottle by myself. Ahh..I was feeling so good. (I didn't know bringing bottles was banned. Sorry, I will never do it again.)
Then THE CHEMICAL BROTHERS started to play. The stage lighting was so beautiful that we swung our flashlights around as much as we could. Fun, fun, fun!!! HEY BOYS, HEY GIRLS, SUPERSTAR DJ, HERE WE GO! I got too excited. In fact, I don't remember anything from that moment on...
"Hey wake up," my friend says, "We're gonna wrap up the tarp."
"Wait. Where's Blanky Jet City?"
"They're finished," he said, " So get up and wrap up the tarp."
I still regret that I missed BJC. I regreted it even more when I saw them on WOWOW. I still dream about this sometimes. The moral of this story is to be careful and not drink too much.
