July 28. The weather was cloudy. I woke up at 4:30 a.m. after going to bed at 2:00 a.m. I slept for only 2 hours! But! Today is Fuji Rock! It is totally different from waking up for work.
I joined the festival on the 2nd day. The headliner on the Green Stage was Neil Young and on the White Stage it was New Order! Too many great performances!
I think one of the reasons why Fuji Rock provide us so much fun is because you have so many choices of what to do there. In my case, after seeing Super Car's show, I just loafed about and took a nap under the tree in a corner of the Field of Heaven. After eating some curry, I took another nap. I drank beer and took a nap, I took a nap listening to Patty Smith. Finally, I realized that it was already dark.
After dancing mad until sunrise at Richy Hawten's DJ set, feeling the burning hot sun light on my skin and I was wondering about bits and pieces at a restaurant near the campsite.
Why is Fuji Rock so peaceful? Well, it's so different from our normal life. I think the time works in a different way then. I can spend an hour doing something which usually takes 30 minutes. I can do what I want and do in my own way. I make my own decisions and be myself. Being active, not passive. This may sound exaggerated and dramatic, but at Fuji Rock you can feel like you're truly "alive".
In this year's programme, Noel from OASIS made a comment in which he said: "Be nice to the people next to you. Then it'll be a great festival."
I didn't to bring a tent that year, but I was sleeping outside in my sleeping bag. Then one of two tatooed twin brothers asked me "Aren't you cold? Do you want to have a drink with us?" They were so nice to me even if they looked a little scary to me. Also, on the first day, people who were leaving gave me 6 liters of water. Thank you everyone! I really appreciate it! Usually, I threw my cigarettes on the ground, but in Naeba I never did. I brought my portable ashtray, and separated the garbage too.
(*I hope you stayed in somebody's tent, but please do not sleep outside. If it rains, you might catch a cold and die in the worst case. From ORG-master)
What is this feeling? At Fuji Rock '00, someone was saying this.
"Fuji Rock is an unusual space. Here everybody is happy and nice. But our regular, boring, worthless days will begin soon. Therefore, let"s absorb the energy and maintain it. That way, we can change our worthless days HERE, NOW!
Naeba is not the only place where I should be nice to people and avoid littering. After an experience like FujiRock, I should try to do this . Mmmm, nice story, isn't it?
Last year, as a walked under the big gate banner of 'Fuji Rock Festival' on my way home, I said to myself :"See you next year, Fuji Rock!"
