Previous Fuji Rocks
Started! Some Bands on Stage! [1997.7.25/15:00]
' For sound check though '
The amps are on! We're off to a flying start.
The mixers are in their seats and the check is on for sound quality. "No misses at any point of the performances, and no excuses
for any either!" We've got our fingers crossed.
From the 'psychedelic' to 'heavy black rock', we've got the best of all
sounds coming soon right here at the foot of Mt Fuji Japan. We are all
speechless, breathless, this is it, Rockin', Rollin', just moments away,
brought minute by minute to you from the rear of the Main Stage by the
hard working Smash staff. At 6:00pm this evening (25th July '97) the
staff met to ensure this one goes smoothly! At last the moment you have
all been waiting for is here. Come on down and rock!
Hugo san, one of our UK members of staff busy at work. He's as excited as a kid with a new toy! Smile please!..............Click!
The sub stage is going up, slowly but surely, and as there is little wind
at the moment, things are coming together like lightnin' my friends!
It's 16:50pm on Friday afternoon and the speakers are in place, the face
of a professional stage is in the making. The backcloth is a cool piece of
artwork too. It isn't really obvious in the photos, but when the nighlights
are on, we'll try and give you a peek at it's brilliance at a later date.
Back at the sub Stage I met with some familiar faces from my days on good old 'Funky Tomato' (a Kanagawa TV music program), Denki Groove.
Still as lively as ever, doing their on stage sound check. Here is shockin'
Taki san, he hasn't changed a bit, except for the ton of blubber around his
waist! Oops! just a joke! (He's the mirror image of myself!) On the
other hand, Takyu who has been busy on DJ tours in East Europe,
performing a real hard schedule for quite some time, has lost a great deal of weight. Last but not least not in the photos, Marin the third member of the band.
These are guys I used to work real close with! ("We worked so close we eat from the same plate!")Says Takyu. Nothing has really changed from the days of Funky Tomato 91, which seems like yesterday.
If anyone gets the vibes over to you, it'll be Denki Groove. Check them out!
Down at the official goods booth, the stuff is just piling up. There are
all kinds of collector's items. It looks like no matter how much money
you have in your pockets, you'll not have enough to satify yourself down
here.
Here are the SCOTS doing their sound check on the Main Stage. This band
isn't that well known here in Japan, but Smash's boss puts these kids a mile high when it comes to cool vibes! Fuji Rock '97 will hopefully be their ultimate boost onto higher ground. Their sound check this afternoon impressed the staff here at Fuji, a brilliant performance which brought
overwhelming cheers. Up on the stage just at that moment, Mt Fuji's peak appeared from out of the clouds. Fantastic view!
We have also been doing a sound check on the news about a fairly large typhoon spinning trouble for this part of Japan. Let's hope it fizzles out
before reaching Fuji. It might not be a hot festival, but the sounds will
keep you burning!!
I'm just checking the whirling nuisance at this moment, it looks like it
won't have us all spinning in awelcome datacomp panic groove after all!! Ha! Ha! Ha!
Perhaps we'll just end up up with a rainbow. Could be dramatic after all!?
