Previous Fuji RocksOne more day to make big noise! [1997.7.24]
I guess there are a lot of people out there checking out the home page interested to see the pages grow with photos and info by the hour. The same goes to say for us at this end as we gather in stuff sent from your end too. "Thanks for getting involved guys!" From bare fields to what we have before us now, it has been really exciting for us here to see the Main Stage and the Sub Stage go from skeletons into fully dressed performance platforms, with over 50 speakers on each side. The uncountable lighting puts the finishing touches and the rest will be left up to you guys to come down and rock, rock, rock!
On the far side of the 2nd Stage is the dance tent, which is a few steps off completion due to a delay in the delivery of speakers and other equipment. Luckily everything should be set up by tomorrow evening. By 19:00 hours the music will be flowing, and we'll all be gettin' down!
Later in the afternoon, Smash's London staff shall be poking their noses around the corner to help out. Staff working on a documentary will be here too, along with others who are to set up the decorations at the dance tent.... Alex Gordon, Hugo shall be around grinning with excitement, along with numerous other staff who will be piling in later, to stake out a piece of the action over this extremely special weekend. We also have on tap, a list of DJ's that are bound to set of a cycle of screeches and screams. No! I won't let you have the list, it's a special surprise to help grow hair on your back! Just kidding folks! Check them out for yourselves.
On my way back to the Main Office I couldn't help but to turn around and gaze in awe at the magnificence of the now gloriously illuminated Mt.Fuji, cool! There are no words to discribe it's beauty, what better place to hold this event? I spent the whole day watching Mt.Fuji, and never once tired of it's ever changing face. Actually, I heard a story about a woman who returned each day to the exact spot to photograph the mountain's changes, something I could relate to without any question. This coming 26th will also be a special treat for most artist performing at the very foot of Mt.Fuji, and I'm sure it will leave them with the same kind of impression it does for most people each time they set eyes on her!? Sorry about the next stuff.......... We'll be in touch with info a little later....................
年齢は16才から23才で、出身地も神戸、愛知、岐阜というから面白い。このフェスティヴァルがきっかけで年齢も住んでいるところも違う彼女たちが知り合いになり、なにかをここで共有するのだ。つくづく「フェスティヴァルはもう始まっている」という実感を持つことができる。ただ、この寒空の下、台風もやってきているというのに、こんなに無鉄砲でいいのかしらんとも思うのだが、若いときには（年をとっても）そんなことの一つや二つ経験するのもいいだろう。仙台から来た二人に大分から来た二人が一緒に4人組のグループを作っていたり、福岡から来た二人組の女の子もいる。そして、なんと22日にここにやってきて寝袋に入って、「いやぁ、昨日の夜は寒くて死ぬ思いをしましたよ」と語っていたのが新宿のヨシハラ君。「ボク、一番乗りしたんですよ」と嬉しそうだ。会場の中は自由に歩けるし、ずっとステージ前に陣取っているなんて不可能なんだから、こんなに早く来なくてもいいのにと思うのだが、こういったフェスティヴァルを全く経験していないから、それも仕方がないだろう。それよりも彼らがただの"コンサート"では体験できないなにかをここで得てくれれば、それでスタッフは大感激だ。
食事の時間が終わると徐々に暗くなってステージでは照明のチェックを始めている。残念ながら、今日はまだ音を出せないので、照明のチェックが重点的に行われ、明日はいよいよサウンドのチェックだ。セット・チェンジに流す音楽の担当はワッシ（hana）と大将のよう。（会場に来る前の日に突然言われてビックリ！）なにが流れてくるか... 正直言って、今、気分は完全にレイドバックして、このレポートを書くときに使っているBGMはリトルフィートやオールマン・ブラザーズやCSN&Yなんて昔の音楽ばっか。他はボブ・マーリーやリコ・ロドリゲスといったレゲエ関係で、気分は完全にフェスティヴァル・モードだ。 さぁて、明日の夕方にはこれをチェックしている人と会えるんだろうなと思うと、またワクワク。忙しい明日のために、今日こそはのんびりと寝たいんだけど、そうもいかないだろうな。 ONE LOVE! 1997.7.24 Reported by hana / Translation by follini

The guys that met through Smash's, "Let's Get Together" board at Queen Sheba's eat and booze party, are also down here setting up together with the sweating Solomon himself. (wait a minute I'm getting hungry, I'll be
back in a minute!)
Down on another side of the field I noticed they have set up flee market,
which also includes a great variety of other refreshment kiosks in the area too. Such as an icecream kiosk, a hotdog kiosk and numerous others
which are sure to crammed with hungry fans right and left!
会場の外にはもうテントができているのは前回のレポートにあったとおり。どんな人たちが来ているんだろう、彼らに会いに出かけていった。夕方5時頃に行ったのだが、その時で約20人ぐらいもいただろうか。入口のすぐそばには京都から来た10代の4人組がいて、しきりにRATMの話で盛り上がっている。彼らはテントを持ってきているのだが、会場内でのキャンプ・サイトのチケットのことは知らなかったという。神奈川県から原付でやってきたのも同じ年代の二人組。彼らはテントもなくて、寝袋もなし。夕方になると夜露が降りてくるし、むちゃくちゃ寒くなるのに... いったいどうするんだろう。その隣にはロッキン・オンを読んで知り合った女性達が3人組できている。
さて、本部に戻るとスタッフ用の食事が用意されている。ここで食事を作ってくれているのはオオタさんとカスガイさんの二人。彼らは東京の西麻布にあるショット・バー「ル・バール西麻布」（港区西麻布4-10-16 電話番号 03-3402-2422)
からやってきて、スタッフが現地に入ってからずっと彼らの世話をしてくれている。ちなみに、今日の昼御飯はちらし寿司と冷やし中華のセットでスープ付き。夜は親子丼かイカ明太子丼のいずれかとサラダ、味噌汁といった具合だ。仕事の流れがあるので数多くのスタッフが行列を作って食事をとるのだが、この時の二人を見ていると、てんやわんやで可哀想なほど。でも、いい人達だよ。チャンスがあったら、彼らの働いているお店にでも顔を出してくれると嬉しいな。
