The yellow signboard of India restaurant "MAHATTA" will suddenly appear in front of you as you walk along the streets of Ikebukuro. The outlook and the eating area has an air of India.
This small restaurant serves lunch to the surrounding area with their main service, catering and stalls at events. So what's MAHATTAユs menu for FUJI ROCK?
Their standard menu is creamy chicken curry with stir-fried onion, wicked spices, yogurt and nuts. Their vegetable curry uses fresh vegetables taking the vegetarians' diet into perfect consideration.
The curries come with Nan or rice. The fresh baked Nan will knock you down! Absolutely perfect with curry - crispy outside with soft middle, baked in a special Indian style oven. The time and effort it takes to get this the way it just right!!
"We don't want to serve anything less than delicious. We only serve 100% beautiful food. If the staff doesn't think it's good enough to serve, they won't serve it!"says Paul, the owner. That's why they get so many people coming back.
I asked what music suits this traditional Indian food best. And the answer was "techno". For some reason, techno seems to bring back memories of India. The red marquee and Chemical Brothers would definitely fit the scene.
In Hindi "a chantey" means "peace." I found this in the restaurant. "Well, why did I write it? Because the world is kind of strange now, yeah? That's why." says Paul. Wow! Isn't that what FUJI ROCK's all about? See you at "a chantey" at FUJI ROCK!
