    "Twin Spin"

    Asagiri Jam

By the time Aphex Twin began his set, the moon shone with a mercurial glow. By the time I reached to second stage area, Mr. James (a.k..a. Mr. Twin) was drilling techno fury into the brains of all around. Along with a few 90's industrial standards mixed in, only a few actual tunes were recognizable. We were treated to a jittery version of perhaps his most recognizable track, "Windowlicker", as well as the second track off of the Come to Daddy EP, "Flim". Sadly, that EP's title track never made an appearance, as James seemed to fall further into scattered beats and random digital temper tantrums.

As most of the set was impossibly fast, most people couldn't actually dance. Instead, they craned their necks to try Asagiri Jam to catch a glimpse of the aloof IDM star, who remained seated behind a plastic screen for the entire set. He seemed to want us to look at the screen above him instead, which was just as well. The various hallucinatory images were much more entertaining than watching him push buttons and switch knobs.

    "Scout Shmout"
As the following DJ's took the late-night revelers closer to dawn, I walked the grounds, admiring the silvery wisps of clouds that now framed the moon. It wasn't long until I found myself sleeping outside - on dry ground, in warm evening weather, still wearing the shorts I arrived in. Boy, was I sure glad I brought all those clothes…
