FRF '99 Field Of Heaven
heaven is a place ... [1999.7.30 15:09]
Located far from the maddening crowd, the Field of Heaven is about as laid-back and easy-going as you can get at Fuji Rock '99. Reflecting the natural fiber vibe of Phish, the primary performer here, the emphasis at the surrounding stalls is on green stuff -- saving the environment, homegrown grub, handmade goods and so on.
Peace and love is in the air, but for now, not the roar of the crowd. Attendence here is low but should pick up as the day goes on.
Whether you want organic coffee or beer, ethnic clothing or Dead tapes, this is the place to come.
Aichi Prefecture is well represented here. There's Kaorika Yamaguchi selling Navaho Indian-inspired clothing, recycled from used clothes and patched up with colorful designs.
Yamaguchi-san is among a group of Aichi residents who have strong relationship with Arizona's Navajos, making an annual trek to attend a massive tribal gathering.
Next door to the Little Eagle teepee is the Lotus Cafe, overseen by Aichi resident Maki. He's just selling coffee, not to make a profit, just as a favor to a friend.
Between sets of Phish or whoever might be there (I caught rollicking set from Scottish bluesman Rory McLeod) be sure to check out the small but happening chill tent for a natural astral groove.
