FRF '99 White Stage
Da bomb [1999.7.31 18:54]
Where's the best entertainment -- on stage or in the mosh pit? That's the question of the day, as the finest of metal rap, skatecore, and big beats grace the stages of Fuji.
It got real down and dirty at White Stage (which should be renamed the Brown Stage) as Japan's Back Drop Bomb whipped the faithful into a frenzy with hyper-rhythms of rap, rock and ska.
Not far from the peace 'n' love of the Field of Heaven, a hard rain of Pocari Sweat bottles fell on the front stage, beaning security and cameramen alike (ouch!), as soon as the Bombers ripped into their first high-octance number.
Unlike the Green Stage, the fabulous flying moshers had no fat pads to land on once they'd made it successfully over front fence. But that didn't deter them from coming and coming back for another trip through the revolving door of mosh.
The dual MCs traded toasts and disses in true bilingual stylee (yo where'd you learn to rap in that kinda english bro?), ratcheting up the tension for the inevitable pogo release. And I'd saythey did a pretty good job of not choking on the dust clouds.
